They've shown practically nothing and Absolution has left me very skeptical. What they've said sounds promising but that's not a reason to get too excited.

Completely agree. And When they say things like "we're going to release a time-exclusive assassination every so often" I get this feeling that it's going to be nothing more than an updated standalone version of Absolution's contracts mode. Contracts wasn't a bad idea, but it shouldn't be the base component of a new game. The way it was handled in Absolution was gimmicky and quickly became repetitive. There is only so many times you can kill an NPC with a samurai sword and hide his body in a dumpster.
I'm going to hold off on buying until I see some actual gameplay footage that looks good.

The impression I got of the 48-hour limited assassinations thing was that it's going to be like Contracts, except it might be worth playing. The problem with Contracts was that in addition to Absolution being too restrictive in its gameplay, when doing a contract you had even more restrictions like "use this disguise and this weapon". Assuming the levels are better designed and the gameplay is good, I think it sounds like a good way to make the mode more interesting.
I doubt they're going to focus on Contracts too much, they did mention at least vaguely a story connecting the missions and having high profile targets.
It sounds like they're leaving themselves a lot of leeway by releasing it in smaller parts. If it looks like the game is heading down the Absolution path, they can still try to un-fuck themselves later on.

Well if the trailer's (involving jogging) any indication, it should be better than absolution. And let's be honest, even the first trailer for Absolution gave off bad vibes. This one seems reminiscent of the high-profile assassinations found in the initial Hitman games. Of course, we'll have to wait for a proper gameplay showcase, but this trailer left me more or less optimistic at least.

And the part at 2:10... epic!

I really hope that the 47 model in the trailers is not conclusive to how he will look in the game. He's way too young and baby-faced; and I've read somewhere that this is supposed to take place after Absolution?

Just by the trailer- I feel that they are hinting that they are going back to the original feel of the Hitman series. Instead of giving us some kind of insight as to what the story will be in the game, we are shown multiple environments in which 47 is put, and in each one we see his killing his victims in different ways. So I think that they are going with a story-light game again like Blood Money where- instead of those bullshit interim levels in Absolution- each level is a completely different- dynamic setting itself. Also I think that their showing the different ways of killing the victims adds to my theory.

Or it could just be a clever way to generate hype for a subpar product. Just a theory; hopefully I am wrong.
PS4 owners are getting beta access early. I wonder when/if PC players will get it.

They've said that the PC beta starts a week after the PS4 beta. I'll probably go for that even though I hate early access type of crap. If there's even a small chance I get to complain about the lack of a proper timer or a bad rating system, I'll take it.

I might pre-order as release day gets closer. I wouldn't mind checking out that beta too. I still want to see more, though, because I made the mistake of pre-ordering Absolution the first time and we all know how that turned out. I wish now that I had waited when it was five dollars on Steam.

They have a Twitch Channel up now where they say they're going to broadcast test runs. www.twitch.tv/hitman

Offline now. Did you catch any gameplay? If so, how did it look?

I didn't. They haven't streamed anything yet. The twitch page has been up for only a couple of days and there's only 66 followers as of now. They said, "Thanks for tuning in. We'll be streaming Hitman gameplay as soon as we've got everything set. Stand by." I got no idea when they are going to start doing test runs.

Daaamn, now I'm jealous. How did that happen? I assume you can't say anything about the game itself.

Yeah, I can't say too much. Although I really wish I could. If you want any type of indication just notice that my vote on this thread's poll has not changed.
They sent me a survey a week ago. I filled it out, knowing that there would be a chance to play a pre-release copy. They sent me an invite a few days later. Overall it was a great experience, and a nice surprise. The game is still in my Steam library, so I'm hoping they will enable it again for future testing. We've all provided feedback to IO Interactive. Now it's up to them to make the necessary changes.

this game needs a serious optimization for the final release. alpha and beta are terrible in performance, even for mid/high end machines.
